Why is it so much of an issue that some pony fans do not wish to be associated with the Brony fandom? Why do some Bronies feel that they need to ridicule these fans for their distancing themselves from a group they do not want to be a part of? Is their self esteem really THAT low that they have to tease people who are just trying to leave and are not afraid to say why?

Video's like the one recently posted on Equestria Daily [link] really creep me out, and remind me why I left that cult-like fandom. People should be free to leave a fandom without being ridiculed for it. And if they choose to say why they are leaving that shouldn't be an issue. You may not think that their reasons for leaving are valid, but that is not for you to decide.

I had a quick look at the comments and I saw someone, who isn't a Brony, saying that they thought the video was unfunny and unfair. He got almost one hundred replies from Bronies trying to convince him that he was STILL a Brony whether he liked it or not; as if he had no say in the matter. That's just creepy guys. For god sake, if people don't want to be a part of your group, just let them leave. Fandoms should be chosen, not enforced.

Hey isn't this about that video...? *checks* Yes, it is. Aw c'mon man! It's just a generic joke about "leaving 4ever!" people who really don't. (Not specific to bronies, that type - plenty of "leaving DA!" drama queens around here too.

When that vid was posted on Derpibooru it received a dozen downvotes without people even watching it, then once some viewed it they thought it was actually a harmless parody.

How is your reaction different from theirs? :D

^By that, I mean: people there instantly assumed that someone was making fun of bronies, you assume it is aimed at fandom leavers. The contradiction should be telling something, namely that you are likely reading too much into it just like the other side did.

I feel I've already explained well enough in other replies. Also your comparison is ridiculous. I DID watch the damn video and my reaction is based on the video and comments made in ED thread, not on preconception.

I think I see where the fault is...

I don't think the video is anything extraordinary, but reading EqDaily comments? That could drive the sanest man to despair...

I think part of your problem with this video is you have a different idea of what leaving the fandom means. Many people interpret it as cutting all contacts with the show, not just the main fanbase, and if some is doing that just because of other people who like the same thing than most people would find that somewhat melodramatic and absurd. The source of most conflict is gaps in communication.

One, that video was just a joke making fun of what might happen to some individuals, if season 3 ends in a way that will change the show significantly. I may be one of them.

I definitely define brony as somepony who is at least partially involved in the community, not simply a watcher. Very few shows have that, "community," aspect. I believe the brony phenomenon occurred primarily due to the stigma and discrimination of liking a show titled, "My Little Pony," because it forced followers to have to convince others that they genuinely like the show, and creates a desire to find others that have the same mentality.

There are definitely two tiers of fans of MLP, and it's important to know that to help others become a brony, who may not be aware of a local group. Those of us in my local group did that at a convention panel last week with are intention being trying to help stray ponies find a herd. I am not the forceful recruiter; I tell others about the show and our group, but that's it. On a rare occasion I will encourage somepony to join, who seems like they are on the fence, and does not seem to have a good reason for it.

I think that you are probably one of the better Bronies, but it is not you who I have an issue with. I don't like this video because it presents a lot of attitudes that I share through a straw man to make said attitudes seem disingenuous and ridiculous.

tey, I think you missed the point of the vid. Sabre was just calling out people who flip flop all the time because they like the attention. This is reinforced by the ridiculous reasons he threw out there for leaving the fandom, reasons I have actually seen people use. He's trying to point out how ridiculous that is, and that if you're going to leave the fandom, just do it already, and don't make such a big deal out of it. So you're not a brony anymore... who cares? That's the point of the vid, at least, that's what I got out of it.

To be honest, I'm not sure where you got the whole "this is cult video" vibe from. Can facets of the Brony fandom be cultish at times... yes, I won't deny that for a second. But, of the bronies I know, none of them are bowing down to RD statues, and chanting "all hail Twilight Sparkle". Perhaps we might use a similar line in jest, like "FOR CELESTIA'S BEARD!" or something equally ridiculous, but only in fun, like an inside joke. To be honest, I'm getting tire of you calling me a member of a cult because I associate myself with the brony fandom. Are you really that jaded that all bronies are cult members to you? Cuz it sure seems that way, these days.

And don't you dare try to construe this comment as an attempt to get you to call yourself a brony, I get it, you're not a brony, just whatever. That's all I'm saying.

Love your art, please draw some more,

Desp

It's a straw man argument. The video maker has taken legitimate grievances and invented a ridiculous imaginary person to misrepresent and discredit these complaints.

And maybe it was a little harsh to generalize bronies as cult-like, but your sick of me calling you a member of a cult? When I have ever called any brony cult-like before now?

It's not being used as a Strawman, it's a just a joke. It's not trying to persuade people , it's just poking fun at melodramatic people. Maybe it's making fun of people like you, but making such a big reaction over this video is just reinforcing the argument you are superimposing onto the video.
